SIR SEAN CONNERY IN ELBASAN

By FATMIR TERZIU
It was springtime of the year 2000. It was Friday night when Sean Connery was the first star of Hollywood to be waited as an icon in Elbasan of Albania. I just remembered something that he said: "I am very satisfied! I don't think I need to speak a lot, because I use to, still do and will carry on speaking to the audience as the movie character

Elbasan's Millennium Cinema (Ish Kinema 11 Nentori) is a pretty grim place: a scrappy rectangle of lands some 55 kilometers' drive from the capital city Tirana of Albania, the road which is surrounded by the rusting remains of communist - era industry. Today, it is also spread with a layer of sticky mud, and rendered yet more unpleasant by the imminent prospect of rain.
Some people, however, have managed to erect their own small bit of sunshine. Pressed up against a security barrier is a fantastically excited middle aged Albanian man, dressed in the Scottish uniform of those who have been hopelessly afflicted by Hollywood stars or rock music, and accompanied by the obligatory embarrassed female partner. Watched anxiously by a gaggle of Albanian security staff, he simply spends hour shouting. "Sean! You are de best!" He yelps. "You are de greatest!" He is one of them who have been in prison for fifteen years for wanting to see Sean Connery's James Bond films.
Up on the stage, Sean Connery associated with Elbasan's Mayor Engjell Dakli and other members of central and local government is leading his first premiere to the new city's cinema as a part of new era for those people who love his playing and his best movies. To start with, transmitted on the big screen for first time "Just Cause", a 1995 movie in which a legal expert uncovers evidence to suggest that a convicted murderer was forced to confess at gunpoint. However, events take a shocking turn.
